Norbit

Does anyone else remember that awful P.O.C. that translated to a two-hour fat joke?

This weekend I stood behind two plus-sized tween girls who were waiting to purchase their copy of the DVD. It made so very sad. And it made me wonder, how does a pre-teen process these images? The implicit morality (thin=good)?

What depressed me even further was to read about Thandie Newton's (the slender heroine of "Norbit") struggle with bulimia. She described it rather frank terms: most memorably, she discussed the scars on her knuckles from shoving her hand down her throat to purge.

The cost or producing these little societal vignettes weighs heavily upon all the players. Why do we keep perpetuating it?

Frustrated.

Not so fun

I took Peanut to the vet today for one of his myriad health problems and wound up almost passing out.

Hypoglycemia sucks.

I don't usually have it (in fact, I know exactly what happened today---I didn't feel well, so I stopped eating after breakfast), but when it comes a knockin', it's a frightening experience. Cottony ears, tunnel vision and overwhelming nausea--my body sends a telegram that warns me that I have 60 seconds to get sugar or I'm going down the hard way. Luckily the ladies at the vet took pity on me and brought me candy and water which patched me up until I could get home (I'm currently drinking a regular soda---hell hath frozen over).

Peanut has kennel cough, probably contracted from the groomers' or taking him the neighborhood street fair. So much for that vaccination. His $600 dental exam will have to be postponed until he's all better. He's a money pit, my pup, but he's a cute money pit.

*sigh*
