Friday Five
Aug. 7th, 2004 03:55 am1. What was the first concert you ever attended? How old were you? Where was it?
New Kids on the Block at the Los Angeles Forum when I was in the seventh grade (age 11 or 12).
2. What was the most recent concert you attended? Where and when?
This time last year at the Palms; I saw Tom Russell and Andrew Hardin.
3. Have you ever seen your favorite artist/band in concert? Did the show live up to your expectations or were you disappointed?
(Here I go being deeply earnest...)
I saw Dar Williams play at the old Palms and it exceeded any and all expectations I've ever had for a concert. It was intimate, beautiful, full of stories and songs. I cried when I left.
4. Ever been to a concert where you were pleasantly surprised at the performance? Ever been to a concert where you were totally disappointed? Name 'em!
Pleasantly surprised. My first Tom Russell concert at the old Palms. I went with a customer who had an extra ticket. Walking into a converted barn only to be greeted by several large men wearing cowboy hats didn't seem to bode well for a positive concert experience. But the concert was INCREDIBLE and made me a fan for life.
Totally disappointed. My old roommate and I paid all sorts of money to see Sting play the Concord Pavilion. The seats were bad, the performance was lackluster, and when it came time for Sting to sing my favorite song off his most recent album, he had an audience member come up and sing it instead.
5. Name five bands that would headline your own personal festival. (Along the lines of Oz Fest or Lollapalooza.)
Dar Williams
Tom Russell & Andrew Hardin
Ani Di Franco
Zero 7
Counting Crows.
